Why an agent shows offline and how to manage the connector
An agent is online only while the connector runs on your computer. Here are the connector commands to check status, restart the service, change access or disconnect.
An agent shows Online while the connector on your computer holds an open line to Omne, and Offline when it does not. Switching the computer off, putting it to sleep, losing the network or stopping the service all make it offline. A message to an offline agent returns "is offline. It answers while your computer is on and online."
Where you see the state
In Settings, under AI providers, each connected agent shows an Online or Offline tag, its machine and how it runs. In Ask AI's model menu, under Your agents, a dot beside the name shows the same.
The connector's commands
The connector lives at ~/.omne/agent.mjs. Run these in a Terminal on that computer, using node ~/.omne/agent.mjs before each.
| Command | What it does |
|---|---|
| status | Says whether the connector is running and lists each agent with its level of access |
| access "Name" omne | Holds the agent to Omne's tools only |
| access "Name" computer | Lets the agent use your files and commands too |
| disconnect "Name" | Disconnects one agent and tells Omne |
| disconnect --all | Disconnects every agent on this computer |
| service install | Installs and starts the background service |
| service remove | Removes the service |
| service status | Says whether the service is running |
| run | Runs the connector in the window, with no service |
The background service
When you connect an agent, the connector tries to install a background service so it starts when you log in and restarts if it stops. On a Mac it is a launch agent, on Linux a user service, and on Windows a scheduled task that runs at log-in. If the service cannot be installed, the connector says why and keeps running in the window instead. The agent then stays online only while that window is open. You can also choose not to have a service by adding --no-service to the connect command, and then start it yourself with run.
The service has been run end to end only on a Mac.
If the computer woke up and the agent is still offline
Run node ~/.omne/agent.mjs status. If it says the connector is not running, run node ~/.omne/agent.mjs service install. If a newer connection starts, it takes over from an older one, so having it open in two places does not cause a problem.
Updates
The connector learns Omne's current version when it connects. A newer connector is used the next time the service starts.
Removing everything
Remove each agent in Settings or with disconnect. When the last one is gone, the service is removed too. You can delete ~/.omne afterwards.
If it still does not come online, see When an agent does not connect or answer.

There's a real person behind Omne, so ask anything.
