Agents and MCP

How to connect any other agent

Any agent that speaks the Agent Client Protocol can connect to Omne. You add the command that starts it to the end of the connector's command.

If your agent is not in the list, the card Any other agent connects anything that speaks the Agent Client Protocol, a common way for programs to talk to coding agents. You tell the connector which command starts your agent, and it does the rest.

Connect it

  1. Open Settings, then AI providers, and find Bring your own agent.
  2. Open Any other agent and type a name in Its name.
  3. Tick the box that says the agent runs as you on that computer and may read files and run commands there. It is required for every agent except Claude Code and Codex.
  4. Choose Connect your agent.
  5. The panel says to paste the prompt into your agent on the computer it should run on, or to run the command yourself. Choose Use Terminal instead to get the command.
  6. The command ends with -- and a placeholder reading <the command that starts your agent>. Replace the placeholder with the real command, for example the name of the program and any flags it needs to start in ACP mode, and run it.

The command has this shape:

node ~/.omne/agent.mjs link --url "<link from Omne>" --name "My agent" -- <command that starts your agent>

Everything after -- is the command Omne's connector will run each time you send the agent a message.

What to expect

Once connected, the agent appears under Connected with the tag Online, and in Ask AI's model menu under Your agents. Press Test to send it one message.

Access

An agent added this way follows its own settings. Omne's connector cannot hold it to Omne's tools alone, because agents that speak this protocol decide for themselves what they may do. In checking, one reached over the protocol read a file and ran a command without asking. Omne refuses what it asks permission for and shows what it did, but it cannot stop what it does without asking. That is why the box in step 3 is required. See What an agent can touch on your computer.

Same rules as the others

The agent answers only you, runs on your own account with its maker, and uses Omne's tools only during your turn. Changes made through Omne's tools wait for your yes. See Billing, terms and who can use your agent.

If the agent does not answer

Check that the command after -- works by itself in a Terminal. Then see When an agent does not connect or answer.
