How approvals work in Ask AI
Reading tools run at once, and anything that changes something waits for your Allow or Decline in the chat. Here is how Omne decides, and what happens next.
Ask AI never changes anything in a connected account without your yes. A tool that only reads runs at once. A tool that could change something stops and shows you a card with Allow and Decline, and the chat waits for your answer.
What the approval card shows
The card names what the tool does, the service and the account it would act on, and the details it would use, such as a title, a message or an identifier. Up to eight details are listed. Read them before you click, because they are exactly what will be sent.
- Allow runs the tool once. The card then shows Allowed, and the chat continues with the result.
- Decline stops it. The card shows Declined, and the AI is told that you said no, not to try the same thing another way, and to ask what you would like instead.
While the card is open, the line above the answer reads Waiting for your answer.
How Omne decides what is a read
Omne goes by what the service says about its own tool. Every tool in the Model Context Protocol can declare that it is read-only. If a tool declares it, Omne trusts that. If a service says nothing, Omne looks at the tool's name: names that begin with words like get, list, search, read, fetch, find, query, lookup, describe, retrieve, view, show or count are treated as reads. Everything else is treated as a change and needs your approval.
This leans toward asking. A tool with an unclear name is approved by you rather than run on a guess.
Who gets approvals at all
Owners, admins and members can use tools that change things, so they are the people who see approval cards. People who can only view the workspace get the reading tools and nothing else, so the AI cannot offer them a change in the first place.
If you do not answer
An approval that is not answered within ten minutes counts as declined. Pressing Stop, closing the page or starting a New chat also ends the wait with no action taken.
One approval, one action
An approval covers the call you were shown and nothing more. If the AI wants to make a second change, it asks again with a new card. Declining one does not decline the whole chat.
Your own agent uses the same rule
When you chat with an agent you run on your own computer, changes made through Omne's tools wait for the same card. There is one exception to be clear about: an agent can also act on your computer through its own program, and what it does there is governed by its own settings. See What an agent can touch on your computer.
What approvals do not cover
An approval controls what Omne's chat sends to a connected service. It does not control what you do inside that service yourself, and it cannot undo something once it has run, because each service has its own rules for undoing. If a card describes a change you are unsure about, decline it and ask the AI to explain first.
Ask for a plan first You can ask the AI to say what it intends to do before it does it. A short plan in words, followed by one approval, is easier to judge than a card that appears with no context.
