What counts as a click, and how Omne protects visitor privacy
Omne counts one click per real visitor per link per hour. Bots and repeats are kept apart, and the tracker sets no cookie.
Omne counts a real person's click on a short link, once per visitor per link per hour. Crawlers and repeat visits are recorded but kept out of your totals, so the numbers are honest.
What is counted
A click counts when it comes from a person and not a bot, and the same visitor hasn't already clicked the same link in the past hour.
What is not counted
- Bots. Link previews and crawlers, such as the ones social networks use to draw a card, get the share card and are flagged. You can see them with Show bots on the events page.
- Repeat visits. The same visitor opening the same link again within the hour. You can see them with Show repeat visits.
How visitors are told apart
Omne sets no cookie and stores no visitor addresses. It counts a visitor as a hash that changes every day, so someone can't be followed from one day to the next. Because the hash changes daily, the same person returning the next day counts again.
Where the data comes from
Each click is recorded when the redirect happens, with the country, region and city that the network provides, the device, browser and system, the referrer, and the UTM values. A click that can't be recorded never slows down or stops the visitor.
What is not tracked yet
Leads and sales are not tracked from a link yet, and neither are revenue from affiliate networks. The pricing of tracked clicks per plan is still being decided. See link plans and limits.
See link analytics and link events to read the numbers.
