Agents and MCP

When an agent does not connect or answer

Fixes for an expired link, a missing Node, an agent that stays offline, a busy agent, a stopped turn and an agent that does not appear in Ask AI.

Most agent problems come from the one-time link, the computer being off, or the agent's own sign-in. Match what you see to the fixes below.

The link in the prompt works once and ends after 30 minutes. Go back to Settings, then AI providers, open the agent and connect again to get a new prompt. Do not reuse an old one.

Each link is made for one agent. Get a new one from the card of the agent you are actually connecting.

"You're no longer in that workspace"

The person who made the link must still be a member of the workspace. Ask an owner or admin to add you again, then connect again.

The panel keeps saying "Waiting for your agent to connect…"

The prompt was not run, or it did not finish. Check on the computer:

  1. Did the agent ask you to approve the command, and did you approve it?
  2. Is Node 18 or newer installed? Run node --version.
  3. Is the agent itself installed and signed in? Open it by hand once to confirm.
  4. Try Use Terminal instead, copy the command, and run it yourself so you can read any error it prints.

If the link has ended in the meantime, the panel says "That link ended. Get a new one."

"… is offline"

The agent answers while its computer is on and online. See Why an agent shows offline for the connector's commands.

"… is still working on something"

An agent handles one turn at a time. Wait for it to finish, or press Stop in the chat, and try again.

"That took too long, so it stopped"

A turn is cut after 25 minutes. Ask for something smaller, or split the job.

"… went offline in the middle of that"

The computer slept, lost its network or the service stopped during the turn. Bring it back online and send the message again.

"That didn't reach your agent"

Omne could not hand the message to the connector. Check that the agent is shown as Online, then try again.

"That agent isn't connected any more"

The agent was removed, in Omne or on the computer with disconnect. Choose another in the model menu, or connect it again.

The agent does not appear in Ask AI

The model menu lists only your own agents, and only in the workspace where you connected them. Check you are in the same workspace. The menu reads agents again whenever it opens.

The Test button returns an error

Test sends a real message through the agent, so any problem on the path shows up there. The message below the row names it. If the agent's own sign-in has expired, sign in again with the maker, for instance claude auth login for Claude Code.

Gemini CLI answers with a quota error

That comes from Google. Check your quota with Google, or use a different key.

A local model makes the computer slow

If Hermes is set to a large local model, it loads that model each time it answers and can use most of your computer's memory. Set Hermes to a hosted model instead.
