Short links not working: fixes for common problems

A link opens the home page

Omne sends visitors to the home page when the link no longer exists or its address has moved. Check that:

• you didn't delete the link. Deleting is permanent.
• you didn't use Change on its short address. Moving an address makes the old one stop working.
• its expiry hasn't passed or its click limit hasn't been reached. See link expiration.

A link is off

A link marked Off stops redirecting. Turn it on with the row menu or the Link is on switch. A link marked Turned off by Omne broke the rules for short links. Visitors see a page saying so, and it can't be changed.

A domain says Waiting for DNS

The record hasn't reached Omne yet, or it is wrong. Open Domains, check the CNAME record against the one shown there, and click Check DNS. Changes can take minutes, sometimes longer. For a bare domain, use ALIAS or ANAME if your provider refuses a CNAME. See add your own link domain.

"That word is kept by Omne" or "That name is kept by Omne"

Omne keeps some words, such as ones its own pages use or ones that could be mistaken for Omne itself. Choose another. "Someone already has that name." means another workspace has your link name.

"Pick your link name first"

You need a link name before you can create a link on omne.to. See your link name and address.

"Your own domain comes with a paid plan"

Adding a domain needs a paid plan. See short links on each plan.

"A short link can't point at another short link"

The destination can't be on the same short domain as the link. Paste the final page address.

Clicks are missing

Bots and repeat visits are kept out of totals. Check Show bots and Show repeat visits on the events page. See what counts as a click. If you test a link yourself, a second click within the hour is a repeat visit.
