Ask AI

Who pays for Ask AI and how to see your usage

Ask AI is billed by the AI provider you connect, not by Omne's credits. Here is how to see what you used and how limits and fallbacks behave.

Today Ask AI is billed by the provider whose account you connected. Omne does not use its AI credits for a chat on your own provider.

The two kinds of AI use

Omne's plans include AI credits each month, listed on the pricing page. Those credits are for AI that runs on Omne's own AI. Anything that runs on an account you connect yourself is billed by that provider, and it does not use Omne's credits.

Ask AI currently runs only on your own provider. Omne's own AI is listed in AI providers as included with your plan and paid from its AI credits, but Ask AI does not run on it yet, and the empty chat says so until you connect a provider. The FAQ has the same note.

Where the charge shows up

Each provider charges in its own way: per token for most text models, from a prepaid balance for some, and through a monthly plan for others. The charge appears on the provider's invoice or balance, not in Omne. Each provider's card in AI providers has a Your usage line that opens the usage page on the provider's own site.

See usage inside Omne

The AI usage page in Settings reads each connected provider live and shows what it can report. The numbers differ by provider:

ProviderWhat Omne shows
OpenRouterUsed, limit and what is left
Kie.ai, HeyGen, Runway, Black Forest Labs, Stability AICredits left
ElevenLabsPlan and characters used of the limit
HiggsfieldSpent in the last 30 days

For providers that give no figure through their API, the page shows nothing for them, and you check the provider's site. Use Refresh to read the providers again.

Cost control that is yours

Because the bill is yours, the controls are too. Most providers let you set a spending limit or prepay a fixed amount, so a runaway chat cannot cost more than you chose. OpenRouter shows a limit and the amount left in Omne's usage page, which makes it a safe way to start.

Inside Ask AI, three things keep a chat short. A chat stops after 16 rounds of tool calls and says so, and you can ask again to carry on. The Stop button ends an answer mid-way. And switching off connectors you do not need keeps the list of tools, and so each request, smaller.

When a provider fails or runs out

The setting What your agents use in AI providers says that if a provider fails or runs out, your agents fall back to Omne AI. Ask AI does not run on Omne AI yet, so in a chat today a provider that fails shows its error in the chat, in the provider's own words, and you can pick another model from the menu and send again.

Your own agent

An agent you run on your computer is billed by its maker, under your own plan or key there, and never from your Omne credits. See Billing, terms and who can use your agent.

Messages per minute

Omne limits you to 30 Ask AI messages a minute. If you pass that, the chat says "That's a lot of messages in a minute. Wait a moment and send it again."
