How to use the filter settings
Every setting in Discover's filter, what each one narrows, and how they combine, from platforms and followers to outlier score and engagement.
Discover's filter narrows the catalogue to the posts you care about. You open it from the search bar at the top of Discover, set any number of options, and the list updates at once. Settings from different groups combine, so each one you add leaves fewer posts.
Open it and clear it
Click the search bar's filter to open the settings. A count under the controls shows how many posts match out of the whole catalogue. If the count falls to zero, Discover says No posts match these filters. and offers Clear filters, which resets everything in one click.
Each option shows a number beside it, which is how many posts have that value. A dimmed option has no posts yet.
Sharing a view is simple: the filter is kept in the page address, so copying the address from your browser gives a colleague the same view.
The first column
Quick views sets several options at once. Click one to switch it on and click it again to clear it. They have their own article, Quick views.
Platforms is a checklist of platforms with a count for each. Use Select all and Deselect all to flip the whole list.
Posted by has Everyone, Creators and Brands. Creators are individual people. Brands are companies, shows and pages.
Followers limits by the size of the poster: 1K – 20K, 20K – 100K, 100K – 1M, 1M – 8M and 8M+. Under the buttons are two boxes for your own range, which accept shorthand such as 20k or 1.5m.
Only posts has four switches:
- Verified creators keeps posts from accounts verified on their platform.
- Has a transcript keeps posts where Discover holds the spoken words.
- Analysed (hook, angle, goal) keeps posts that have been read through and taken apart.
- Only my saves keeps the posts your workspace added.
The second column
Formats lists each platform's own formats in that platform's words, for example a short, a reel or a carousel. The group shows only for platforms Discover covers.
Topics is what the post is about. Pick several and you see posts about any of them.
Languages is the language heard in each post's transcript. A note under it says how many posts have a transcript so far.
The third column
Sort by chooses the order: Relevance, Newest posted, Newest added, Top outlier, Most liked, Most viewed, Most commented, Most shared, Creator, A to Z and Creator, Z to A. Newest posted is when the creator published the post, and Newest added is when it came into your Discover. Relevance is dimmed until you type something in the search bar, because it ranks the best matches for your words.
Min outlier score keeps posts at or above 2×, 3×, 5×, 10× or 20× their creator's usual. See What the outlier score means.
Creator's top posts keeps posts that rank in a creator's own top 1%, 5%, 10% or 25%.
Engagement has a box for each of Views, Likes, Comments and Shares. Type a minimum, and each box counts only where the platform reports that number.
Posted within limits by the age of the post, from Today to Year, or Pick dates for two dates of your own.
Added to Discover limits by when the post came into Discover, from Today to 3 months, or Pick dates.
A few examples
When a setting seems to do nothing
Languages and transcripts shape the list in a way people do not expect: a post with no transcript yet has no known language, so a language filter hides it. The reasons posts disappear are all in A post or creator is not appearing.
